Pulmonary Metastases of Endocrine

چکیده
Purpose: To determine the clinical course and outcome of patients undergoing pulmonary resection for metastatic endocrine tumors. Methods: Retrospective review of 47 patients with known endocrine tumors and pulmonary metastases who were evaluated for surgical resection between 1975 and 1996. Results: Tumors evaluated included the following: carcinoid (16), thyroid (12), pancreatic adenocar¬ cinoma (10), adrenocortical carcinoma (6), pheochromocytoma (2), and parathyroid (1). Thirty-three patients were asymptomatic. Hormone secretion was noted in five patients. Twenty-five patients, who had isolated lung metastases, good control ofthe primary tumor, and no medical contraindication had surgical resection. The number of pulmonary nodules was not a limiting factor as long as all disease could be resected with adequate residual pulmonary function. CT was successful in directing resection in all patients. Twenty-six operations were performed in 25 patients and 22 patients were treated medically. Wedge resection was performed for lesions <2 cm (15), and lobectomy for larger

Malign cystic glucagonoma presented with diabetic ketoacidosis: case report with an update.
A 44-year-old woman was diagnosed with type II diabetes in 1998 and 1 year later she developed necrolytic migratory erythema, which is a specific skin lesion of glucagonoma. During the clinical investigation, a nodular 6 cm mass in the distal pancreatic region and multiple cystic liver metastases were found. She was operated on, and glucagonoma was detected and the long-acting, repeatable, octr...
متن کاملEvaluation of hypertrophic pulmonary osteoarthropathy in patients with carcinoma of the lung [Persian]
The features of Hypertrophic pulmunary osteoarthropathy (HPOA) on radionuclide bone scintigraphy have been well described in case reports and small series of patients. The aim of this study was to investigate prospectively the prevalence and distribution of HPOA in a large series of patients with carcinoma of the lung. Two hundred and eleven patients aged 31-89 years (average age 66 years...
متن کاملMalignant insulinoma with hepatic and pulmonary metastases associated with primary hyperparathyroidism. Case report and review of the literature
Malignant insulinomas are rare tumors (10% of insulinomas) that often present as mnulticentric macro nodules with multiple liver metastases before diagnosis. We report the case of a 55 year old female with a medical history of severe hypoglycemic attacks for two months. Blood tests showed a decreased value of glycemia (30 mg/dl) associated with increased insulin level (l6 microU/ml) and an incr...
متن کاملTwo somatic TSH receptor mutations in a patient with toxic metastasising follicular thyroid carcinoma and non-functional lung metastases.
In a 59-year-old patient, thyroid follicular cancer was diagnosed in two right-sided toxic thyroid nodules, which had presented clinically as unilateral thyroid autonomy. In addition, the patient had histologically proven lung metastases of thyroid cancer; however, these failed to exhibit iodine uptake and were resistant to radioiodine treatment. The functional activity of the thyroid nodules p...
متن کاملPulmonary resection for metastases from colorectal cancer.
INTRODUCTION The lung is the most common extraabdominal site for metastases from colorectal cancer. Patients with untreated metastatic disease have a median survival of less than 10 months and a 5-year survival of less than 5%. The purpose of this study was to evaluate long-term survival in patients who underwent pulmonary resection for metastases from colorectal cancer. METHODS Between Janua...
